DQ Rewards: Earn Points, Get Free Treats and Deals

If you visit Dairy Queen more than a couple of times a year, the chain’s free loyalty program is worth understanding. DQ Rewards lives inside the official Dairy Queen app and on DQ.com, and it turns every qualifying purchase into points you can trade for food and treats. It also unlocks a rotating set of app-exclusive offers — including a birthday reward for members. This guide explains how enrollment works, what the points are worth, and the rules most fans miss, all drawn from Dairy Queen’s own published materials.

Dairy Queen Birthday Reward

Members who place a qualifying order before their birthday get a special offer on the Deals tab, valid for seven days. Here is exactly how to qualify — and what to expect.

How It Works

Joining is simple: create an account in the official DQ app or on DQ.com and you are automatically enrolled as a member — there is no separate signup step and no fee. From that point on, every dollar you spend on qualifying orders at participating locations earns you 10 points. The program runs entirely through the app, so your points balance, available rewards, and current deals all live in the Rewards tab along the bottom navigation bar.

A few exclusions matter from day one. Gift card purchases and orders made through third-party delivery or ordering apps do not earn points. Rewards participation also varies by store: Dairy Queen restaurants are independently owned franchises, so points and deals only work at participating locations. Inside the app you can check a “Find Participating Locations” list to see which spots near you support the program before you order.

Earning Points

There are three ways points land on your account: scan the barcode in your app at the register (tap the SCAN button in the top-right of the Order or Rewards tab), redeem a deal at the register, or place an order through the app or DQ.com while signed in. If the in-store scanner is not working, the cashier can look up your account with your phone number and email address, and your points will still post. New points can take up to 24 hours to appear, so give it a day before worrying.

Forgot to check in at the register? The app’s receipt-scanning feature is the backup: you have seven days to scan the loyalty barcode from a receipt (or enter it manually) to claim the points you earned. Just note that receipts from non-participating stores have no loyalty barcode printed on them — those points cannot be claimed at all.

How you earnWhat to know
Order in the app or on DQ.com (signed in)Points post automatically, usually within 24 hours
Scan your app barcode at the registerUse the SCAN button before paying
Redeem a deal in-storeAlso earns points on the order
Scan a paper receipt afterwardBackup option; valid for 7 days only
Gift cards and third-party delivery ordersExcluded — earn no points

Redeeming Rewards

Once your balance reaches a reward tier, open the Rewards tab to see what is available and tap the reward to use it in a mobile order, or scan the barcode at the register to redeem in the restaurant. Dairy Queen publishes example tiers on its official FAQ: 250 points gets a free regular fries, and 500 points gets a free small Blizzard treat. Bigger balances unlock bigger rewards as you keep earning. Two rules cap every redemption: you may use only one reward or deal per order, and deals you activate expire 15 minutes later, so wait until you are at the checkout to tap the button.

PointsExample reward
250 pointsFree regular fries
500 pointsFree small Blizzard treat
Higher balancesBigger rewards unlock as points grow

One easy bit of math: at 10 points per dollar, 250 points equals $25 of qualifying spending and 500 points equals $50. Points are valid for 365 days after the day they are earned (expiring at 11:59 PM PST), and when you redeem, the oldest points are used first. If you are opted into email notifications, Dairy Queen sends a reminder 14 days before any points expire.

App-Exclusive Deals

Points are only half the program. The Deals tab in the app carries weekly offers that only members can use, including a recurring “Mobile Monday” promotion. New deals arrive every week, so the tab is worth checking each Monday. Deals work two ways: add them to a mobile order through the app, or redeem them in the restaurant by tapping the Redeem In Restaurant button. Only active deals appear in the app, and a redeemed deal disappears automatically. The same one-per-order limit applies — you cannot stack a deal and a points reward in a single transaction.

Want more ways to save beyond the app? Our Dairy Queen deals guide rounds up current promotions across the chain, and if you are planning a reward-fueled visit, the calorie calculator can help you keep the order in check.

Birthday Reward

Members get a special birthday offer delivered to the Deals tab in the app (or on DQ.com) on their birthday, and it stays valid for seven days. To qualify, you need to complete at least one order of at least $1 within the 45 days leading up to your birthday while signed into your account. New members who sign up close to their big day can still qualify: sign up and complete a qualifying order within one day before your birthday. Note that the birthday stored on your account cannot be edited yourself — if you entered it wrong, contact Dairy Queen’s fan relations team to have it corrected well ahead of the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is DQ Rewards free to join?
Yes. Create an account in the DQ app or on DQ.com and you are enrolled automatically — no membership fee and no separate registration step.

Do my points expire?
Yes. Points stay valid for 365 days after the day they are earned and expire at 11:59 PM PST. They are spent oldest-first when you redeem, and email subscribers get a 14-day advance warning.

Does every Dairy Queen location participate?
No. Dairy Queen stores are independently owned franchises, and rewards plus mobile ordering work only at participating locations. The app’s “Find Participating Locations” link shows which nearby stores support the program. Fans in Texas should note the program currently works at participating Texas locations as well.

Can I use more than one reward or deal on the same order?
No. Only one reward or deal may be redeemed per order, and activated deals expire 15 minutes after activation.

I forgot to scan my app at the register. Can I still get my points?
Yes — scan the loyalty barcode on your receipt (or enter it manually) within seven days using the app’s receipt-scanning feature. Points may take up to 24 hours to appear after that.

Can I check in without a smartphone?
Mostly. You can create an account and order with deals through DQ.com on a desktop browser, but earning points in-store and redeeming at the register relies on the app’s barcode or receipt scanning.
